Southern stops Northern, 10-0

OAKLAND - Melodie Stolbom pitched five shutout innings and helped herself at the plate in Southern's win over Garrett County and Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Northern Wednesday evening.
Stolbom had five strikeouts and just two walks while allowing four singles to earn the win. She hit a triple at the plate, and Sarah Brenneman had a one-run single as the Rams had only five hits of their own.
Southern (4-4, 2-4 AMAC) scored three times in the first inning, and then scored two runs in each of the next two before scoring its final three in the fifth.
Southern won the junior varsity game 12-1 with Morgan Rafferty and Katie Eggleston both going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single. Regina Crosco finished 2-for-4.
Kendra Hardesty earned the win while pitching a two-hitter.
Southern plays Hampshire at home at noon on Saturday. Northern (0-9, 0-8) plays host to Fort Hill today at 4:30.
