Corbin rallies Hampshire to victory

Cheyenne Corbin went 3-for-5 with a home run as Hampshire rallied from an early deficit to knock off Southern, 13-11, in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference softball game Saturday afternoon.

Hampshire trailed 5-0 after the first inning and 8-4 after four, but scored five times in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to pull out the win.

Corbin’s homer was a two-run shot in the third inning. Jasmine Douthitt belted a triple, double and single, and winning pitcher Kasey Patterson had a pair of singles. The Trojans were aided by six Southern errors.

Kimberly Michaels led the Rams with two doubles, a single and three RBIs. Shayna Sweitzer hit two doubles and Alyssa Dick had a two-run double.

Hampshire won the jayvee game 13-0.

Southern (5-5) hosts Mountain Ridge and Hampshire (7-12) entertains Frankfort on Tuesday.
