CUMBERLAND - Shari Beavers lost her bid for a perfect game with one out in the seventh inning, but still dominated Keyser Tuesday as Fort Hill blanked the Golden Tornado 6-0 in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Beavers finished with 15 strikeouts, no walks and allowed one hit in the complete game effort. She gave the top-ranked Sentinels their first two runs of the day with a triple in the third inning.
Beavers had retired 19 consecutive batters to start before freshman Brooke Mangold singled back through the box.
"She was outstanding all day long," said Fort Hill coach Mike Bittner about Beavers. "Her control was great and she had everything working for her tonight. We played solid defense behind her all game as well."
Brittany Hines made a shoe-top grab from her position in right field during the second inning that kept the perfect game alive.
Alex Schupfer and Destiny James would both finish with two singles, and Cierra Miller dropped a RBI bunt single.
Fort Hill (11-1) is 7-1 in the AMAC. It will play a doubleheader with Hedgesville at Long Field on Thursday.
