Mountain Ridge defeats BW behind Robertson, 9-5

FROSTBURG - Kelsey Robertson sat down 11 batters on strikes, and Mountain Ridge supplied her with a five-run third inning as the second-ranked Miners beat Bishop Walsh 9-5 Tuesday in Frostburg.

Robertson allowed five hits, although two of them were home runs, and walked only two. The Miner offense helped her with nine hits.

Keri Bean doubled three times, and Jenna Delaney hit a couple singles for Mountain Ridge.

For the Spartans, Anne and Abbie Mathews both homered. Abbie's was a two-run shot launched in the third, and Anne's was a solo that came during the fifth.

Taylor Butts collected two doubles for BW. Rochelle Wolford struck out six, but had some control problems and issued eight walks.

The Miners (10-3) will play Allegany today, 4 p.m., at Glendening.
