No. 3 Allegany shuts out Bishop Walsh, 11-0

CRESAPTOWN - Haylie Harper and Jenna Mathews homered and Hayley Stankan hurled a two-hitter as third-ranked Allegany blanked Bishop Walsh in a City League game at Carl Belt Field.

Harper's blast was a three-run walk-off homer in the sixth inning. She had singled earlier in the game.

Mathews, who hit a two-run homer in the third and also singled, finished with four RBIs. Stankan and Katelyn Gear had two singles and an RBI, Hilary Lyons had a double and an RBI and Katie Alkire a double for Allegany, which had 11 hits.

Stankan pitched all six innings, walked none and struck out eight.

Rochelle Wolford doubled and Abbie Mathews singled to account for BW's hits.

Allegany plays again today at Southern. The teams will finish a suspended game at 4 o'clock, followed by the regularly-scheduled game. Bishop Walsh (5-9, 0-3) hosts Northern Saturday at 11 a.m.

With the win, Allegany stays in the hunt for a share of the City championship. The Campers can win a share of it by beating Fort Hill on May 6. The Sentinels, 3-0 in the City, have already assured themselves of at least a tie for the league title.
