Miners beat Sentinels

Mountain Ridge forges AMAC tie with Fort Hill

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

FROSTBURG - Kelsey Robertson shut out the top-ranked Fort Hill Sentinels, and her Mountain Ridge teammates supplied her with more than enough offense to lift the second-ranked Miners to a 6-0 win Wednesday at Glendening Field, meaning Mountain Ridge and Fort Hill share the inaugural Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference championship as both teams finish the season with 11-2 AMAC records.

Robertson allowed two singles over the seven innings she worked and issued no walks. The Mountain Ridge offense supported her by scoring the six runs on five hits and four Sentinel errors.

Mountain Ridge got going early with a run in the first inning. The Miners tacked on three more in the second frame, and scored their final two in the fifth.

Keri Bean hit a double, a single and scored a run. Jenna Delaney singled home a run, and Molly Cheshire had one single and one run scored.

Cierra Miller had five strikeouts and one walk in four innings, but was labeled with the loss.

"We played a pretty good all-around game," said head coach Martha Mauzy. "Kelsey pitched an outstanding game, and it was an all-out team effort on our behalf."

The Miners won the season series with the Sentinels by winning the teams' first meeting, 7-5, on April 14. Mountain Ridge is the only area team to beat Fort Hill this season.

Mountain Ridge (12-3) is seeded eighth in the Maryland 1A West Region playoffs and will host Southern Friday at 4 p.m. Fort Hill (15-3) earned a first-round bye and will play Monday in the second round against the Northern-Boonsboro winner.
