Perennial crowd-pleasers

Cumberland Times-News

As it does each year, the Potomac Concert Band will perform on Saturday, Independence Day, at Constitution Park Amphitheater prior to the city’s annual fireworks display, weather permitting. Under the direction of D. Lynn Zeller, the Cumberland-based summer concert band will play from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The group’s typical performance season runs from May through early September. The band performs at local festivals, holiday and patriotic celebrations, civic activities and for local businesses. The nonprofit organization does receive some funding from the Allegany Arts Council, but members also must raise money to sustain the band. The July 4 show is open to the public free of charge. Some permanent seating is available in front of the band shell, but audience members may bring lawn chairs and blankets on which to sit. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
