G&S Coal/NewPage beats Fort Ashby Lions 10-2

G&S Coal/NewPage used a five-run fourth inning to eliminate Fort Ashby Lions from the Hot Stove League playoffs Friday evening at Holler Field.

Steve Holtschneider and Jacob Miller combined for eight strikeouts and held the Lions to only four this, all singles.

NewPage entered the bottom half of the fourth inning leading 2-1 and finished with a 7-1 advantage. Morgan Green began with a single. After a walk, Cody Malone doubled in Kaleb Fazenbaker, pinch-running for Green, for the first run. Jordon Montgomery had a two-run base hit and Jacob Miller had an RBI base hit. Four of the five runs were earned.

Malone had two hits and an RBI and Steven Holtschneider tripled. Hunter Broadwater doubled and had two RBIs. A.J. Saweikis also tripled and had an RBI.

Dalton Brown had an RBI for the Lions.

G&S Coal/NewPage (16-4-1) will play Corks Cars in the second round. Day and time has yet to be determined.
