Salisbury grabs Hot Stove crown

POTOMAC PARK - Matt McKenzie drove in two runs and three players had two hits apiece as the Salisbury American Legion came from behind for the second straight game to defeat D&D Homes 8-3, capturing the Hot Stove League championship Wednesday evening at Hamilton Field.

Salisbury defeated D&D Homes 5-4 with a four-run sixth Tuesday to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

On Wednesday, D&D Homes took a 2-1 lead after a two-run third inning. Salisbury, however, scored three times in the top of the fourth to make it 4-2 on RBI's by Scott Beachy, Cody Dice and McKenzie.

D&D Homes made it 4-3 with a run in the fifth before Salisbury put the game away with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Ryan Vogt led Salisbury's eight-hit offense with a single, double and an RBI. Ryan Miller had two base hits as did Alex Beiler. Brandon Miller and Dice each had RBIs and Geoff Garlitz, the starting pitcher, and Nathan Hutzel each had RBI singles.

Ben Russell led D&D Homes with two base hits and an RBI. Justin Shaw doubled in a run and Eric Banner and Adam Stowell each had a base hit.

Ryan Redinger struck out six in the loss while Garlitz and Beiler each had two strikeouts for Salisbury.

Salisbury claims the title with a 21-4 record while D&D Homes finishes 19-8.
