Larry Housel Jr. rolled a near perfect 299 game and a 773 set at White Oak Lanes for the area's top score for the week. Jeremiah Howsare was next high scoring 728/267.
The 2007-2008 bowling season has ended in several leagues and discussions about summer plans, next season, awards dinners, etc. are also happening. The annual USBC association meeting is scheduled for May 20 at White Oak Lanes in Cumberland starting at 6:30 p.m.
Mike Brobst led area bowlers for the week rolling 782/278 in the White Oaks' Industrial League. Jim Helminiak's 729/267 was second at that center.
Two more 300's rolled during the week. Bob Greene scored 793/300 at Wilson Lanes and Will Clinch rolled an identical 793/300 at The Bowler.
Corey Shirey bowled 825/300 at The Bowler for the area's top score for the week and added a perfect game to his accomplishment as well. Doug Luzier also rolled a 300 game in his 691 set.
Fred Ritenour led area bowlers for the week scoring 738/279 at White Oak Lanes. Mike Brobst was next highest, rolling a big 289 game and 725 set.
Rich Schwinabart bowled 773/266 in the Wednesday Night Men's League at The Bowler and was the area's high for the week. Norm Nicol, a couple of pins back, rolled 770/279. Bob Warnick bowled a 298 game in his 677 set. Also in that Wednesday Night Men's League, the "Gutter Cleaners" team finished the night with all five members striking out in the 10 (15 straight).
Troy Cubbage bowled the area's two top scores for the week. In the White Oak's Wednesday Night Industrial League, Cubbage scored 799/278. The following Friday night at The Bowler Troy rolled 783/277 for that center's weekly high.
Mark Miller in The Bowler's Tuesday Night Men's League was one pin away from a perfect game, rolling 681/299. Mike Oyer had the top score at The Bowler, rolling 746/258 for the week's top score in the area. Troy Cubbage was next, just two pins back, scoring a big 296 game and a 744 set.
More big scores reported this week. Dave Yates rolled another 300 game (his third this season) and a 736 set for the top score at The Bowler for the week.
This bowling season is demonstrating that the younger bowlers typically are posting the top scores in most leagues. That fact also reflects the national trend. On the PBA tour, the older bowlers (even the Hall of Fame members) are having trouble winning televised events.
Mike Brobst added to his list of career 300 games, rolling No. 22 at White Oak Lanes on Dec. 26. Mike's perfect game and 752 set were White Oak's top scores reported for the last two weeks. Fred Ritenour's 742/276 was next high.
BJ Curtis bowled the best score of this season, rolling a big 299 game and an 824 set in the County League at The Bowler on Dec. 28. Curtis' 824 set topped Jack Burner's recent high of 817 by seven pins.
Jack Burner in The Bowler's Wednesday Night Men's League bowled a big 290 game and 817 set for the area's top score so far this season. There have been two other 800's this season, the previous high by Bobby Lannon, an 814 at White Oaks; the other, an 804 by Dave Yates, also at The Bowler.
Brad Burr bowled 769/258 for the area's high for the week. Doug Courtney, only one pin back at 768, rolled a big 289 for his high game in the set. Buck Lease, also with a big game, scored a 288 in his 716 set.
Bobby Lannon scored 759/245 at White Oak Lanes and was the area’s top bowler for the week. Jeremiah Howsare followed, rolling 717/278. Don Parsons bowled a big 289 in his 702 set.
