The Youth bowler high for the week was Seth Friend’s 612/211 at The Bowler. Amanda Green rolled 590/258 at Wilson Lanes and Cody Morton bowled a big 276 game and 589 set for the youth high at Rainbow Lanes. Caitlin Weems was the top youth at White Oaks rolling 566/211.

I will continue the discussion I started last week on muscling the ball by pointing out the advantages of a loose straight armswing. One outstanding feature of high average bowlers is that their delivery is smooth and makes bowling look easy. They let the ball do most of the work with minimal side forces to disturb straight, forward motion. When a bowler swings the ball behind his back the timing of his release is critical and destroys accuracy.

To develop that straight armswing bowlers need to practice deliberately directing a pushaway towards their target from a mid chest high position then relax the arm muscles so that the ball drops with the force of gravity into a rapid smooth backswing. A short hesitation at the highest point of the backswing should then be followed by applying force to the downward movement of the ball. Much like releasing a compressed spring. Then the release and straight line upward follow through to complete the delivery. I will discuss releases in future columns.

Good luck bowling and have fun striking out!
