Burner rolls 290 game in 817 set

Howard "Pete" Peterson, Columnist

Jack Burner in The Bowler's Wednesday Night Men's League bowled a big 290 game and 817 set for the area's top score so far this season. There have been two other 800's this season, the previous high by Bobby Lannon, an 814 at White Oaks; the other, an 804 by Dave Yates, also at The Bowler.

Corey Shirey's 735/265 was next high for the week at The Bowler. Other big games were: Tim Yutzy's 288 in his 722 set and Jack Klosterman's 290 game in his 726 set.

Mike Brobst and Troy Smith were highest at White Oak Lanes for the week bowling 758/265 and 740/279, respectively.

Clay Corbin was the top bowler at Wilson Lanes rolling 749/269. Bob Greene was next high bowling 722/277.

At Par-Matt Lanes, Joe Lucas Jr. was highest scoring 683/242. Jeff Meyers followed rolling 678/227.

Rainbow's Phil Whetstone bowled 650/228 for that center's high for the week. Dudley Sinclair was next scoring 607/223.

In the PBA Experience League at White Oaks, Gary A. Ullery scored highest rolling 619/256. Mike Brobst was next bowling 592/224; Doug Otto followed scoring 587/206.

Missy Yates was the area's top lady bowler for the week rolling 631/238 at The Bowler. Vicki Coughlin was next only a few pins back bowling a big 255 game and 628 set.

Dee Self scored 622/219 for the ladies' high at Rainbow Lanes. Pam Brinkman's 510/195 was next.

At Par-Matt Lanes, Shirley Kahl was the top lady bowling 580/202. Lee Wilt's 559/199 was next high.

Julie Greene's 564/235 was highest of the ladies at Wilson Lanes.

Autumn Gable rolled 551/201 and Shirley Squires bowled 549/200 for the top ladies' scores for the week at White Oak Lanes.

Glenn Bell's 677/248 at The Bowler was the area's top senior score for the week. Tom Brown rolled 639/268 for Rainbow's senior high. Larry Reckart bowled 568/217 and was the high senior at Par-Matt Lanes. White Oaks senior, Ed Hudgins, bowled 503/186.

Only two centers reported youth bowler scores this week. Kevin Patch scored 610/214 for the top youth at White Oak Lanes and Derek Bennett bowled 607/222 for the high youth at Par-Matt Lanes.

The Holiday season brings family members together and many of them travel hundreds of miles for the reunion. I am reminded that one of the joys of the season is being with the younger members who you haven't seen for months because of college or because they live further away from their original home.

A tradition in many families is having a bowling party at their local center on New Years Eve. I also notice that former youth bowlers get together with friends and family at bowling centers. Some of them really do get hooked on bowling early in life. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my readers!

Good luck bowling and have fun striking out!
