Shirey misses 800 set by a pin

Alex Shirey rolled big numbers for the week’s high in the area. Shirey scored 799/277 in White Oak’s Industrial League. A.J. Rice was next rolling 783/269. Rice is one of the best local two-handed bowlers that I know of.

Wilson Lanes’ Justin Boyer bowled 780/277 for that center’s weekly high. Brett Stenberg was next at 703/245.

At Rainbow Lanes, Derek Yates posted the high mark for the week of 762/279. Jeff Friend was next scoring 713/266.

Paul Pryor’s 707/249 was the week’s high at The Bowler. Allan Johnson was only one pin back at 706/257.

Kim Jackson’s 698/241 was Sherwood’s best followed by Gary Monahan’s 664/231.

In the PBA Experience League at White Oaks, A.J. Rice was the leader scoring 680/254. Don Green and Bobby Lannon were next rolling 653/235 and 606/222, respectively.

Julie Greene was the area’s top lady bowler for the week scoring 642/266 at Wilson Lanes. Sandy Smith’s 554/204 was next.

Vivian Helsley rolled 614/214 and was the top lady at The Bowler. Vicki Coughlin was next with 565/233.

Sandy Hott’s 578/200 was Rainbow’s top score. Dee Self followed rolling 547/222.

Autumn Gable bowled 565/204 for the best at White Oaks. Vicki Coughlin rolled 564/200.

Alice Monahan bowled 490/177 and Gina Smith rolled 451/177 at Sherwood Lanes.

Senior Joe Wolfe bowled 617/243 at The Bowler and Jim Edmands rolled 548/193 at White Oak Lanes.

Tanner Smith was the area’s top Youth bowler scoring 700/263 at White Oaks. Kasey Sullivan rolled 659/234 at The Bowler, Josh Myers bowled 613/224 at Rainbow and Ethan Taylor rolled 487/180 at Wilson Lanes.

I have to admit that I was impressed by the performance of A.J. Rice, a young two-handed bowler that has only been bowling for a couple of years, in the PBA Experience League and the way his ball seemed to explode the pins. I guess the secret is to have the right forward velocity as well as rotation and direction of rotation to get that amount of pin action. There is certainly more than one way to get strikes and Rice made me a believer of the two-handed release as well.

Good luck bowling and have fun striking out!
