CUMBERLAND — John D. Hout, 61, of Cumberland, died on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at the WMHS-Memorial Campus. Paulette H. Hout, 61, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the WMHS-Memorial Campus.

John was born Dec. 5, 1945, in Cumberland, and was the son of the late Charles John Hout and Daphne Virginia (Plummer) Hout. Paulette was born Jan. 30, 1947, in Cumberland, and was the daughter of the late James Nelson Athey and May (Hitchins) Parry-Athey. John and Paulette were married for 40 years and would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on Dec. 17, 2007.

John was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1963, and attended Allegany Community College. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from construction as superintendent. John was a member of the Local 616. He enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful pieces of furniture. John enjoyed watching NASCAR and traveling to races with his daughter. He also restored classic vehicles.

Paulette was a homemaker and a former employee of Bopp’s Flower Shop. Her greatest joy in life was doing crafts, making things for friends, and giving of her many talents to help her numerous friends in making their lives more pleasant. Paulette’s passion was being able to spend time with her daughter, her son-in-law and their dogs, Winnie and Lulu, and her little puppy, Sadie. Everyone who knew and loved John and Paulette will miss them.

They are survived by their daughter, Heather Lea (Hout) Pesta and her husband, Dr. R. Matthew, Cumberland. John is survived by his brother, Jacob R. Hout; his sisters, Geraldine (Hout) Suesse and her husband, Robert and Charlene (Hout) Burt and her husband William. Paulette is survived by her brother, O. William Parry and his life partner, Allen Brackett of New York and Florida; her sisters, Sally Jones and her husband Don, Boonsboro, and Judy Sarver and her husband, Milton, Cumberland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The lives of John D. and Paulette H. Hout will be celebrated at “When Pigs Fly,” the corner of Valley and Mechanic Streets, on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at noon.

The family requests that memorials be made in the memory of John and Paulette Hout to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Memorial and Tribute Processing Center, PO Box 5216, Glenn Allen, VA 23058-5216.
