LONACONING — John F. Foote, 72, of Jackson St., Lonaconing, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the WMHS-Braddock Campus.

Born on Aug. 6, 1937, at Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of the late James and Blanche (Wilson) Foote. He was also preceded in death by his companion of 30 plus years, Betty Corbin; a sister, Patty Kyle; three brothers, James W. Foote, Elden “Bud” Foote and Charles Foote and a brother-in-law, Wayne Kyle.

Mr. Foote was a retired security officer, having worked at several different plants in the Winchester, Va., area. While serving in the United States Navy in the late 1950's, John sang in various clubs throughout the Washington, DC area, where he was known as the “Singing Sailor.” He also performed throughout the tri-state area and was a member of the Blue Angel Drum and Bugle Corps.

Surviving are his son, John M. Foote and wife Bertha, of Keyser, W.Va.; three grandsons, Anthony Foster and fiancee Kim Veach, of Masontown, W.Va., Clint Foote and wife Sonra, of Keyser, W.Va., and David Foote and wife Tosha, of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two great-granddaughters, Kaley McDermeit, of Shanks, W.Va., and Shannon Foote, of Hedgesville; two brothers, Warren “Whiz” Foote, with whom he resided and Walter Foote, both of Lonaconing; two sisters-in-law, Christine Foote, of Lonaconing and Cecelia Foote, of Delaware City, Del., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Mr. Foote's request, his body will be cremated and there will be no visitation or services.

The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
