— LONACONING — Mayor Jack Coburn said 42 people turned out for the town’s wellness program sign-up Tuesday at the town hall and he remains hopeful that more residents will take part in the community project.

“We have a three-hour sign-up period and a total of 42 people signed up at the weigh-in and blood pressure check. We are hopeful that more town residents will join us even if they don’t want to formally sign up for the program,” he said.

Participants were also provided with information for healthy living.

The next weigh-in is scheduled for April 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the town hall.

The first three-mile walk will be held on April 3 from 6 to 8 p.m.

“We invite others to join in the walk even if they didn’t sign up and if they don’t want to do the entire walk. Just come out and join us. You don’t have to go the distance to participate,” said Coburn.

The program includes a $200 prize for the program participant with the greatest weight loss during the three-month wellness program that ends June 18.
