Steve's Pharmacy robbed; possible suspects in custody

— CUMBERLAND — A robbery was reported at Steve’s Pharmacy in the 16000 block of McMullen Highway late Wednesday morning with possible suspects detained in the case minutes later by law enforcement who stopped a suspect vehicle in the area of the Wiley Ford Elementary School along Route 28.

Initial reports via law enforcement radio communications indicated a white male suspect placed an unknown object in the back of a person inside the pharmacy, demanded cash and then ran from the business.

The suspect, who was reportedly wearing a red or black hoodie and wearing a mask up to his eyes, possibly entered a dark-colored red van that Maryland State Police medevac Trooper 5 helicopter located on Route 28. As the helicopter monitored the vehicle, an Allegany County Sheriff’s Department deputy began following the vehicle that reportedly stopped briefly at a Route 28 business and then proceeded to a residential area in near the Wiley Ford Elementary School. Ridgeley Police assisted after the vehicle was stopped.

About an hour after the incident, police radio traffic indicated at least two suspects were in custody and were being taken back to Steve’s Pharmacy for possible positive identification by the victims.

Maryland State Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and C3I investigators responded to the incident.

Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, Ridgeley Police Department and West Virginia State Police also responded to the scene where the suspect vehicle was stopped and later towed in the custody of the C3I Unit.
