LAVALE — Law enforcement agencies in Allegany County continued to search late Wednesday afternoon for a man who robbed the Susquehanna Bank in LaVale at 936 National Highway.
The robbery took place at 10:18 a.m., according to a news release from C3I.
The suspect approached a teller and displayed a handgun as he demanded money. The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money and he placed it in a black satchel before leaving the bank via the same rear door through which he entered.
While the robber was walking across the parking lot, a dye pack within the money exploded. The man was seen throwing the dye pack to the ground and running into the residential neighborhood behind the bank.
The robber is a white male in his 40s, about 6 feet with an average build, mustache and couple of days growth of a beard. He was wearing a long-sleeved, blue dress shirt, dark jeans and a black fedora or cowboy type hat. The black satchel was slung over his shoulder.
Police said the man is likely to have red dye on his clothing and person.
First responders from Maryland State Police and Allegany County Sheriff’s Office searched the area.
C3I’s Investigation Unit and the FBI responded, as well. Interviews were conducted and surveillance video was reviewed.
