FSU debuts new marketing plan, slogan

Selected faculty, staff members receive honors, recognition

FROSTBURG — Jonathan Gibralter, president of Frostburg State University, rolled out a new marketing plan on Friday during his annual address on the state of the university held in the campus Lane Center.

A crowd estimated at more than 300, which included university staff, government officials, education professionals and students, were introduced to the new slogan for FSU which is: One University. A World of Experiences.

Gibralter said that FSU will see new signs, posters, letterhead, viewbooks, promotions and more.

“A brand is not simply a logo or a slogan, it’s a connection, a feeling that resonates with everyone when they think about an institution,” said Gibralter.

Gibralter gave a 50-minute address complete with a digital multi-media presentation projected on a large movie theater sized screen.

The presentation, titled “Rolling Out The Future,” gave an update of the status of the university as well as honoring selected faculty and staff.

Those receiving recognition were: Jeff Graham, associate dean of students, Lynn Davis, senior administrative assistant and David Wiland of the maintenance department.

Gibralter also recognized 15 professors who were recently awarded tenure.

Several updates included an announcement that FSU enrollment increased for the fall semester of 2013.

The total number of undergraduates enrolled in fall 2012 was 4,631. Enrollment for fall 2013 was 4,704.

Gibralter also touted the new Sustainable Energy research Facility. The $2 million facility was constructed on the Allegany Business Center portion of the campus and is completely off the grid.

The economic impact that FSU has on the area was also discussed.

“The total economic impact of faculty, staff and student expenditures, as well as FSU purchases, on the state of Maryland is conservatively estimated at $173 million, $121 million in Allegany County alone,” said Gibralter.

Emphasis was placed on the university commitment to seek and increase collaboration and partnerships with other schools and organizations around the globe.

“Experiential education is only relevant if it reflects the global community in which out students will live, work and compete for jobs,” said Gibralter.

FSU also plans to build a new police facility.

“We’ve outgrown our current space. We are poised to move forward on a new public safety building,” said Gibralter.

He said it will be in a prominent place.

“We are considering the Braddock Road entrance to the Campus Drive so it becomes the first thing you see when you come off 68,” said Gibralter.

Following a brief new promotional video created for FSU, Gibralter concluded by inviting everyone into the Lane Center lobby.

“As you have seen, we have many stories to tell. Unlike Vegas, what happens in Frostburg no longer stays in Frostburg,” said Gibralter.
