CUMBERLAND — A deputy with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that there was a large amount of property stolen from Allegany County, as well as property stolen from Morgan and Hampshire counties in West Virginia, located at Scrap Brothers scrap yard in Paw Paw, W.Va.
The deputy and law enforcement authorities from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office obtained consent from the owner of the scrap yard to search the property.
Police recovered a Husqvarna lawn tractor that had been reported stolen from Naylor’s Hardware on Industrial Boulevard earlier that morning.
They also discovered a large amount of property that they determined had been stolen.
C3I investigators responded to assist and the owner of the scrap yard provided investigators the name of the person who had sold the items to him.
Police searched the Oldtown residence of Donald Leo Fishel, 50, and charged him with theft related to Naylor’s lawn tractor. He was taken before a district court commissioner and was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
Numerous items had been taken from several residences in the Oldtown area, police said. Among the items recovered are another Husqvarna lawn tractor, weed eaters, chain saws, lawn mowers, generators and other power tools.
Investigators have been able to identify several additional victims, but are asking anyone who had items stolen from their residence to contact C3I at 301-777-0326.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
