Transit employee Siera Wigfield earns certification

CUMBERLAND — A third member of Allegany County Transit’s team has earned an important national certification.

Siera Wigfield, transportation planner, was named a Certified Community Transit Manager.

“You are a shining star (for the county),” said Allegany County Commission President Michael McKay at Thursday’s commission meeting, where Wigfield was recognized for her achievement.

“Siera is a very dedicated employee and a major contributor to our transportation team,” said James Stafford Jr., transit division chief. Wigfield handles the county’s national transportation department reporting and worked “extensively” with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act qualified projects, Stafford said. “She does an outstanding job.”

Wigfield, a Cumberland native, graduated from Frostburg State University with a degree in environmental analysis and planning. She’s a graduate of Fort Hill High School. Wigfield started working for the county in 2005 and was promoted to her present position in 2008.

Wigfield and her husband, Brandon, a senior developer for Conxx, live in Cumberland.

Siera Wigfield is an accomplished baker and also a crafter and designer, a county press release said. The couple enjoy driving their vintage truck through the rural sections of Allegany County.

Wigfield joins Stafford and Christine Howard as members of the transit organization with the certification.

The certification requires mastery of skills acquired through experience, education, professional development and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

County officials said the designation recognizes qualified and dedicated practitioners in the community transit industry. This program is the standard of excellence within the profession. To earn the certification, Wigfield passed a rigorous comprehensive one-day examination.

The CCTM exam is administered by the Community Transportation Association of America, www.ctaa.org.

Allegany County Transit, on average, serves more than 192,000 passengers and travels over 415,000 miles each year.
