— KEYSER, W. Va. — A Potomac State College campus police dog was bitten by a neighborhood dog when his handler took him out of his police vehicle early Tuesday on West Piedmont Street, according to the Keyser Police Department.

“A Potomac State campus police K-9 officer had finished his shift and exited his vehicle with his dog when he was attacked by a neighborhood dog of a pit bull-type breed,” said a Keyser police official.

The K-9 handler was able to separate the dogs and the police canine was not injured.

The incident led to a citation being issued to John T. VanMeter, 22, of West Piedmont Street, for allowing a dog to run loose.
