CUMBERLAND — A shooting Monday evening on Independence Street sent a 24-year-old man to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.
At about 6:35 p.m., the wounded victim, Rodricus Wilkes, was observed running in the 200 block of Columbia Street. Cumberland Police located Wilkes on Bond Street and called Cumberland Fire Department ambulance to provide medical care to the victim.
Wilkes was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of an unspecified gunshot wound. There was no word Tuesday from police on the victim’s medical condition or extent of injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicated the shooting occurred in the 100 block of Independence Street following an altercation. Cumberland Police and the C3I Unit secured the residence where the incident occurred.
Police said charges are pending.
