City IT specialist is Municipal League’s employee of year

Jon Daddysman selected from more than 23,000 workers

CUMBERLAND — The Maryland Municipal League has selected city of Cumberland employee Jon Daddysman, an information technology specialist, for the coveted honor of 2013 employee of the year.

Known as the Roland B. Sweitzer Employee of the Year Award, Daddysman, the sole recipient, was selected from a pool of nominees submitted from participating MML member municipalities from across the state.

“Jon Daddysman is an outstanding employee who exemplifies dedication and hard work and is very deserving of this award,” said Jeff Rhodes, city administrator.

The MML gives the award annually to a municipal worker who displays a high standard of performance and superior service.

“I’m very honored and I’m very appreciative to get the award. It was a big surprise,” said Daddysman, a Westernport resident.

 Working for the city since 2006, Daddysman was recognized for his overall contribution, including custom designing several automated systems.

Systems designed by Daddysman include a police internal inspection system, seized property tracking system, parking permit tracking system and a cellular intelligence system.

“To be selected from over 23,000 municipal employees in the state of Maryland is a significant achievement. We are fortunate to have Jon on our team,” said Rhodes.

Daddysman also helped in the collection of surveillance video that helped to resolve cases including a community sting operation that resulted in 13 arrests, 15 warrants and 66 criminal charges.

During a 2007 mining accident in Barton, Daddysman was instrumental in helping emergency personnel monitor events as they unfolded above and below ground through a live camera feed.

“We are thrilled to have someone of his caliber working here,” said Mayor Brian Grim.

The MML award was was given to Daddysman in Ocean City on June 24 as part of the activities surrounding the opening session for the 2013 MML convention.
