Carpendale home destroyed by fire

— CARPENDALE, W.Va. — Volunteer firefighters battled fire in a structure on Maryland Street just before 8 a.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

The Mineral County 911 Center reported first-arriving Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department units found smoke and fire coming from the residence following alert at 7:54 a.m.

Ridgeley fire official Chris Detrick said the fire occurred at the Self residence and no one was home at the time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The property was declared a total loss. No monetary figure on the property loss was provided.

Firefighters were on the call for several hours.

Short Gap, Wiley Ford, Cresaptown, Bowling Green, Bedford Road, Frostburg, Shaft, Corriganville volunteer fire departments and the Cumberland Fire Department also responded in addition to ambulances from Ridgeley and Short Gap.

Potomac Edison personnel and Carpendale town employees also responded, according to the 911 center that handled communications throughout the incident.
