— MCHENRY — Maryland State Police have charged a Northern Garrett High School teacher with sexual abuse of a minor, child pornography and displaying obscene material to a minor.

Richard A. McCrobie Jr., 42, of Grantsville, was arrested by troopers on Friday.

McCrobie, who was also the school’s Future Farmers of America chapter adviser, has been under investigation since information surfaced in July that he had allegedly allowed students unsupervised access to computers on school premises and provided access to pornographic materials to students, according to a news release issued by state police. During the investigation, former and present students were interviewed and evidence was seized from the school and McCrobie’s residence. McCrobie has not had access to students or school property since the start of the school year, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

McCrobie was processed at the McHenry barrack and taken for a bond hearing before a district court commissioner. He was not listed as a prisoner in the Garrett County Detention Center late Friday.
