— GRANTSVILLE — A Ridgeley, W.Va., man was seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident late Thursday afternoon on Chestnut Ridge Road south of the Pennsylvania state line, according to Maryland State Police.

Daniel Ryand, 34, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital following the 5:29 p.m. crash, police said.

The accident occurred when a 2006 PT Cruiser, operated by Jessica Shuck, 34, of Ridgeley, was traveling southbound. The vehicle traveled out of control and into the northbound lane where it was struck by a 2004 Chevy Cavalier operated by Joe Arnold, 48, of Meyersdale, Pa.

Police said a third vehicle, a 2007 Toyota 4 Runner, was unable to stop and struck the Cavalier in the rear.

Ryand was a passenger in Shuck’s vehicle. Shuck and Arnold and the driver of the Toyota apparently were not injured.

An investigation by state police is continuing.
