Frostburg man turns himself in for Short Gap bank robbery

FROSTBURG — A man who turned himself in to the Frostburg Police Department on Wednesday afternoon has been detained in connection with a robbery at knife point of the First Peoples Federal Credit Union in Short Gap, W.Va., on Sept. 13.

Mineral County Sheriff Jeremy Taylor told the Times-News Thursday afternoon that Jeremiah L. Seib, 34, was arrested by Maryland authorities. Seib is listed as an inmate at the Allegany County Detention Center and the Maryland Judiciary Web Search shows he was charged Thursday with assault and escape among other infractions.

Frostburg Sgt. George Kroll said that when Seib was being taken to a cruiser for a ride to the Allegany County District Court commissioner he complained that the handcuffs, which held his hands behind his back, were too tight.

“When our officer went to adjust the cuffs he pulled a hand out and took off running,” Kroll said. “Our officers ran and caught him on Mechanic Street.”

Search warrants allowed authorities to search Seib’s residence at 32 Linden St. Taylor said a large sum of money was found there.

“Maryland is holding him as a fugitive from justice and we have started the extradition process,” Taylor said.

Taylor said he received a call Wednesday evening and went to the Frostburg Police Department where he interviewed Seib.

The robbery took place about 10 a.m. After receiving money, the suspect ran from the bank along state Route 28 and entered the woods near Furnace Acres.

C3I is in charge of the Maryland portion of the investigation.
