Disturbances at Frostburg tavern draw attention of authorities

Three cited after Friday complaint at Wild Things

FROSTBURG — Three people were issued with criminal citations when Frostburg Police and allied agencies responded to a disturbance complaint at the Wild Things tavern at 113 E. Main St. early Friday.

The 12:07 a.m. incident was not the first time the tavern has drawn attention from Frostburg Police, according to Chief Royce Douty.

“We have received numerous complaints at the Wild Things tavern since September for fights, disturbances, disorderly calls, underage drinking and, in some cases, we had to call our allied police agencies for assistance,” said Douty.

The police chief said that a “large fight” call at the Wild Things on April 11 handled by Frostburg Police required assistance of Maryland State Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Frostburg State University Campus Police Department.

“There were about 400 people gathered in that area when we arrived there in that complaint last week,” said Douty.

Friday’s incident led to criminal citations issued to Danie K. Asiamah, 24, of Silver Spring, for failure to provide proof of age and failure to obey a lawful order; Aaron R. Gruber, 22, of Frederick, for failure to obey a lawful order; and Emilee E. Digennaro, 19, of Pasadena, for disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order, possession of a ficticious or altered driver’s license and possession and consumption of alcohol under the legal age of 21.

All three defendants were released after being taken to the Frostburg Police station where they were issued the citations.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the Wild Things location when police were present. Fire inspectors checked the occupancy and exits but reportedly found no violations, police said.

Douty said the Allegany County liquor board was notified of the latest incident and violations at Wild Things, which is located in the heart of the Frostburg business district at the corner of East Main and Center streets.

“Our goal is for this business to fully comply with the law and liquor board regulations. We are continuing to monitor the bars and taverns in the city of Frostburg to make sure they are abiding by the liquor laws and not jeopardize the safety of our citizens,” said Douty.
