ROCKY GAP — This year’s Discover Allegany Outdoors...A Nature and Outdoor Recreation Festival will take place Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Rocky Gap State Park’s Mountain View Pavilion.
Free activities will include geocaching, canoeing and kayaking, fly fishing, scavenger hunt, introduction to the basics of fishing, shoreline nature search and wildlife silhouettes for children to paint. Interactive displays on wildlife, scouting, fly tying and chestnut trees will be featured.
The second annual festival is presented by Home Ground, a community group founded last year to increase the knowledge of the county’s natural assets and inspire people to support sustainable use and conservation of the land and water resources. Tom Mathews serves as chairman.
The festival is co-sponsored by Potomac Edison/First Energy, Western Maryland Adventures and Rocky Gap State Park.
Volunteer board members include treasurer Guy Winterberg, secretary Kelly Martin, and Harold Hipsley, Mary Huebner, Teresa Oates, Mark Moessinger, Kurt Hoffman, Raquel Ketterman, Georgene McLaughlin, Molly Mastrangelo, Barbara Johnson and Marie Miller.
The tax-exempt organization is supported by memberships and donations.
