— LAVALE — Law enforcement agencies in Allegany County searched Wednesday afternoon for the person who robbed the Susquehanna Bank in LaVale at about 10 a.m.

Initial dispatches indicated the armed robber was 6 feet, 1 inch, possibly with a beard and was wearing a black, wide-brimmed hat.

The perpetrator may have been stained by red dye that had been inserted into the money bag. The bank is located at 936 National Highway.

One report said the robber could have been in an older, red Jeep Cherokee that was seen leaving the BP Service station at a high rate of speed shortly after the crime.

The Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded initially and was assisted by C3I.

A bloodhound and handler were called to the scene.

Students at Cash Valley and Parkside elementary schools were locked in, according to an automatic voice mail sent by the Allegany County Board of Education Wednesday morning. Dismissal was scheduled for the regular time.
