Slanesville man found guilty in heroin sale

ROMNEY, W.Va. — The 12-person jury that heard the case against Robert Glenn Ford on Wednesday came back within 30 minutes, finding him guilty of delivery of a controlled substance — heroin.

Ford, 45, of Slanesville was indicted in September for possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession with intent to deliver oxycodone and delivery of a controlled substance.

Hampshire County Prosecuting Attorney Dan James said a confidential informant wore a body wire and video camera system to document the purchase of heroin.

Search warrants at Ford’s home and safety deposit keys found revealed that Ford had $2,000 at the home and $8,000 at the bank.

James filed a forfeiture of the money in October.

“If we are able to get the forfeiture the funds will be used to further combat drug use or sales of narcotics and distribution,” James said.

Use of the funds is mandated by state statute.

Ten percent of those funds would go to the prosecutor’s office and the remaining 90 percent would go to the sheriff’s office.

“I credit the sheriff’s office for putting together an excellent case,” James said.

This was the first jury trial before Judge H. Charles Carl III since he was appointed judge of the 22nd Judicial Court.

Carl did not grant post-conviction bail. Ford was taken directly to the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta to await sentencing, scheduled for April 24.
