Associated Press

— ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Police say a 7-year-old boy died after falling from a vehicle heading to participate in the Annapolis Independence Day parade.

The boy fell Thursday evening on Amos Garrett Boulevard, where the line was forming to join the parade.

Cpl. Amy Miguez, a police spokeswoman, says the boy was getting off a moving trailer when he fell. She says he was then run over by the wheel of the trailer.

The boy was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where police say he was pronounced dead.

The police department’s traffic safety unit is investigating the accident. Police are not releasing information on the vehicle or the boy’s identity.
