CUMBERLAND — County and city firefighters responded to three structure fires in less than 2 1/2 hours Wednesday, including a residential fire on East Elder Street with first reports indicating occupants were trapped inside the building.
Cumberland fire and ambulance personnel and Cumberland Police responded to the 100 block of East Elder Street in South Cumberland at about 12:25 p.m. — just minutes after various volunteer units responded to a working structure fire on Cedar Knoll Lane in the Baltimore Pike area.
About two hours earlier, numerous volunteer firefighters responded to a fire in the 12700 block of Bowling Street in Bowling Green.
By late morning, one firefighter was injured while battling the Bowling Green fire and was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of possible smoke inhalation.
Reports from the scene also indicated the structure was heavily damaged.
Wednesday’s structure fires pushed the four-day total for structure fires in Allegany County to six.
