KEYSER, W.Va. — A Keyser woman was rescued from her smoke-filled residence by a Keyser Police officer late Wednesday night.
Susan Pownall was reportedly found unconscious and lying on the kitchen floor of her apartment in the 300 block of Ridge Street just before midnight and was then taken to Potomac Valley Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
No information was available Thursday concerning her condition.
Keyser Police Chief Karen Shoemaker declined to identify the officer who rescued Pownall but said that the officer is a two-yar veteran of the department.
Keyser Fire Chief Chris Paitsel said civilian Chris Blacka assisted in the rescue following alert of the fire department at about 11:50 p.m.
A second apartment in the building was not affected by the fire, Paitsel said.
