— FROSTBURG — The driver of the car that crashed into Gianni’s Pizza on Main Street on Thursday evening was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries, according to Roger Bennett, chief of the Allegany County 911 Joint Communications Division.

Stephen Dunn, 73, of Piney Run Road hit the accelerator while his car was in reverse as he was trying to park on Main Street, Frostburg Police Chief Royce Douty said. Dunn was taken to the hospital by Frostburg Area Ambulance Service following the 7:23 p.m. accident.

Bennett, who is a member of the county’s structure collapse team and responded to Gianni’s, said that the team surveyed the building both before and after volunteer firefighters removed the car, and there was no structural damage. Coincidentally, the business was planning renovations to the facade to begin next week, he said.

In addition to Frostburg firefighters, units responded from Shaft, Potomac and Bedford Road fire companies as part of the collapse team, Bennett said.
