FROST — OAKLAND — A Garrett County man is awaiting trial on assault charges following an alleged domestic assault early Saturday in the 500 block of Finzel Road west of Frostburg.
Maryland State Police arrested Jeffrey Lee Custer, 49, on charges of first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment following a 2:36 a.m. complaint in which he allegedly struck a female victim several times with a closed fist.
Following a bond hearing, Custer was granted pre-trial release after posting $25,000 bond.
Police said Custer left the residence before troopers arrived.
Custer was armed and threatening to harm himself before he was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Aaron’s Run road and after hours of negotiation. He was then taken to the Garrett Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
The victim apparently did not seek medical treatment at the scene.
