FLINTSTONE, MD – The Flintstone Volunteer Fire Department and National Road Autosport will open a three-day Polish Mountain Hill Climb celebration August 1-3 with a kick-off Friday night cruise-in party at the Flintstone VFD Fire Hall.
The public is invited to the free event, Flintstone Friday Night, which starts at 6 p.m. and will feature live entertainment including Time Flies, a street rod cruise-in, food and drink - and registration for SCCA racing teams in town for sports car racing time trials on a closed section of Gilpin Road on Polish Mountain.
On August 2 and 3, organizers will follow a prescribed plan of road signs and traffic control points manned between 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. east of Flintstone on Route 144. The competition is also free for spectators.
Working with the Flintstone VFD, the local motorsports group stages the two-day time trial under terms of a State Highway Administration special event permit allowed by Maryland traffic code. National Road Autosport, aided by the sponsorship and support of state Sen. George Edwards, was instrumental in changing Maryland law to allow the event in 2007.
During the hill climb, spectator parking will be provided on MD 144 east of Flintstone with free all-day shuttle transportation to access the paddock and spectator areas. Shuttles will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Flintstone Volunteer Fire Company.
