— CUMBERLAND — An Allegany County sheriff’s deputy was injured Thursday evening when his cruiser was struck by a Cumberland woman turning from Henderson Avenue onto Mechanic Street, according to Cumberland Police.

Deputy Chris Detrick told police that he felt like his back was injured and he would seek treatment by transport to the hospital later.

Around 7 p.m., Mary Ann Cleggett, 48, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet passenger car west on Henderson Avenue when she failed to yield the right of way to make a left turn onto Mechanic Street, police said. She crashed into the driver side of the police cruiser and damaged the driver side of the front fender on her car.

Cleggett was initially complaining of neck pain but refused treatment by the Cumberland Fire Department at the scene, police said. She was issued a traffic citation charging her with failing to yield the right of way.

Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.
