— CUMBERLAND — No bluffing—Texas Hold’em may soon grace the tables at Rocky Gap, said officials with the casino.

A controlled demonstration of the games will be offered in accordance with requirements of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, which recently approved the casino’s request to expand table games offerings.

“Since we opened in May, the No. 1 request we’ve received from guests was to add live poker,” said Scott Just, general manager, Rocky Gap Casino Resort. “We look forward to offering poker to the public as soon as we receive approval from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.”

In the hotel lobby are three poker tables with eight seats each offering Texas Hold'em with both limit and no limit stakes. All poker proceeds from the demonstration will be donated to Volunteer Team Inc., the nonprofit organization that supports Rocky Gap State Park, said casino officials in a news release.

The controlled demonstration for the poker tables is planned for Oct. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. Poker could be offered to all interested by Oct. 7.

The casino now has about 550 slot machines and 10 table games.

Meanwhile, casino income continues to grow. The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency has announced August revenue numbers for the state’s four casinos and the combined statewide revenue totaled $71,015,560.

“Rocky Gap Casino Resort generated $4,010,846 from both slot machines and table games in August. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was $202.41 for slot machines and $1,643.83 for banking table games,” according to the agency’s website.

In a year-to-year comparison — excluding Rocky Gap Casino Resort, which opened in May  — August 2013 casino revenue increased from August 2012 by $22,369,905 or 50.1 percent, the agency said.

Rocky Gap Casino Resort is owned by Evitts Resort, LLC, and is a subsidiary of Lakes Entertainment Inc.
