CUMBERLAND — CUMBERLAND — A man who denied falsely reporting a crime in progress was arrested Friday after city police called the Allegany County 911 Center for assistance.

Police had responded to Oldtown Road after being told that a person with a gun was approaching a business there.

Officers located Yancy Ezra Sheriden Bailey, 33, who was talking on a cell phone, but denied making the call for help.

Police contacted the emergency center and asked a dispatcher to call the number of the initial complainant, at which time Bailey’s phone rang, displaying the emergency center as the caller.

Bailey was released by an Allegany County District Court commissioner pending trial after being charged with making a false statement to police and causing an investigation.
