— CUMBERLAND — When Lindsay Zembower celebrated her marriage to Will Stahl at their reception at Raystown Lake Resort, her aunt Karen Howell was in the hearts of many family members and guests.

The Howell family honored the memory of Karen, who participated in the Friends Aware program for 27 years, with a $100,000 donation to the agency’s Building Independence Capital Campaign.

Zembower is the daughter of Beth and Greg Leake and granddaughter of Charles Howell and Marjorie Howell.

Karen Howell died Oct. 20, 2010. She was described by Friends Aware staff as a kind-hearted, beautiful person.

The Friends Aware campaign will help launch its next phase of providing services for people with developmental disabilities. A complete renovation and addition to the organization’s Life Enrichment Center on Holland Street is planned.

Lindsay and Will decided to contribute to the family’s donation through the traditional dollar dance at the wedding reception.  The newlyweds raised $420 in Karen’s memory.

The family has shared Karen’s spirit and love with the many people she knew through her participation with the Friends Aware program, agency officials said.
