Senior housing facility manager to retire

Campbell-Fultz at Cumberland Arms 27 years

CUMBERLAND — After 27 years of employment at the Cumberland Arms, Dellann Campbell-Fultz, manager of the Liberty Street senior housing facility, will be retiring effective Dec. 31.

“It’s time. I don’t have a plan, but I may travel some,” said Campbell-Fultz.

Campbell-Fultz started working at the Cumberland Arms in 1985. She became the facilities manager in 1992.

“I loved being the manager of the Cumberland Arms. I’ve met the most wonderful people,” she said.

The Cumberland Arms, a federally subsidized senior housing facility owned by the California-based Hampstead Corp., has 75 tenants in 69 apartments.

“I’ve told her she can’t leave, but she won’t listen,” said Karen Cowan, leasing specialist for the Cumberland Arms.

Residents of the facility expressed their gratitude for Campbell-Fultz’s years of service.

“I hate to see her go. Every time I’ve had a problem she’s helped me out,” said resident Janet Heath.

“She looks out for everyone,” said another resident.

Campbell-Fultz said she wants to spend more time with her children, Josh, Julie and Steve Campbell, and daughter Joy Martin and her grandchildren.

“I love my children,” she said.

A 1955 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Campbell-Fultz worked as a secretary for the CIA shortly after graduating.

“I worked in Washington, D.C. But I came back in the early ’80s to get married,” she said.

Campbell-Fultz also spent six years on the Cumberland City Council in the 1980s under Mayor George Wyckoff and later Harry Stern.

“The most exciting part of it was being a part of Cumberland’s bicentennial,” she said.

Although the management of Cumberland Arms has changed a few times, Campbell-Fultz worked for the facility’s current administrator, Edgewood Management of Germantown.

“She has done so much. She made sure people made it to doctors appointments, helped them find furniture and so much more,” said Cowan.

However, Campbell-Fultz said that it has been a team effort.

“All of the staff, they really keep this place going,” said Campbell-Fultz.

During her time off, she has been able to travel all over the U.S. and the world. Campbell-Fultz has been to Ireland, Jerusalem, Jordan, Egypt, France, China, South America and many more places around the globe.

“I really enjoyed Ireland and Petra in Jordan,” said Campbell-Fultz.

However, she always has the Cumberland Arms close to her heart.

“I just love the senior citizens and want to be sure they have a clean, secure place to live,” she said.
