LaVale bank hit again; police nab two suspects

LAVALE — The Susquehanna Bank branch on National Highway was robbed at about 10 a.m., and two suspects were arrested minutes later when they apparently bailed from a vehicle just minutes later as they were being pursued by police in the Motor City area.

Tuesday’s robbery occurred six days after the same bank was robbed by a lone gunman who entered the bank at about 10 a.m. Aug. 28. No arrests have been made in that incident.

It was at about the same hour that a suspect reportedly entered the Susquehanna Bank in the 900 block of National Highway and demanded money, apparently without displaying any weapons.

The Allegany County 911 Center was immediately notified of the incident and broadcasted information to law enforcement that resulted in quick identification and locating of a suspect vehicle that left the bank area headed eastbound on U.S. Route 40.

The suspects reportedly turned from Route 40 onto state Route 36 toward Corriganville with police in close pursuit. In the area of the Super Shoes store, the suspects “bailed” from their vehicle but were quickly taken into custody.

Police radio broadcasts indicated that a bank dye pack and money were found at a location near the bank property.

Maryland State Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the C3I Unit all responded to the incident.

Radio communications between the various police agencies were coordinated by 911 dispatchers.
