Bishop Walsh receives $59,000 technology grant

Funding used to renovate, upgrade computer labs

CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh School was the recent recipient of a $59,879 grant for technology from the Marion I. and Henry Knott Foundation.

Funds have been used to renovate and upgrade computer labs at the elementary school level by adding state-of-the-art touch-screen and keyboard computers for the students.

“At Bishop Walsh, we know the importance and value of introducing technology within a student’s early years,” said Shelby Webb, Bishop Walsh principal. “All of our elementary students now have access to first-rate computers that make learning both educational and fun.”

Additional funds from the grant were set aside to purchase a mobile laptop computer unit for students in the middle school, Webb said

The Knott Foundation is a Baltimore-based, Catholic family foundation committed to honoring the Knott’s legacy of generosity. The foundation funds many initiatives, but often focuses on Catholic organizations, education and nonprofit leadership. This is the first time Bishop Walsh has received the highly competitive grant in more than 15 years.

“We are very appreciative to the Knott Foundation for funding this initiative, as part of our school’s ever-growing technology plan,” Webb said.
