MCHENRY — Garrett and Elkins played from one extreme to the next in Saturday’s doubleheader, but Garrett still pulled out a sweep winning the first game 1-0 and the second 11-9 at Garrett College.

Greg Beachy recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed only four hits, throwing all eight innings. Garrett scored its run in the bottom of the first extra frame. Blake Walker led off with a walk and was bunted to second by Beachy. Beachy reached when no one covered first base. Both runners moved up when Elkins intentionally walked Cory Bosley, and Corey Carr ended the game with a single to score Walker.

Carr finished with a pair of singles.

Bosley had two RBIs on a single and two doubles in the second contest. Jason Ashby hit a triple and two singles to drive in one. Walker and Johnson had two singles each. Walker had one RBI and Johnson a pair.

Garrett (5-0) plays at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Preston.

Cumb. Post 13 6 6, Morgantown MVP 3 0

CUMBERLAND — Todd Mullaney helped Cumberland Post 13 complete a sweep of Morgantown MVP by throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win during the second game Saturday at Legion Field.

Jon Dicken smacked a two-run home run in the third to give Cumberland a 4-0 lead. Bryan Hansel singled twice and Jeremy Sneathen hit a double.

Mullaney tallied seven strikeouts and allowed two singles in his seven inning of work.

Hansel provided the power in Cumberland’s 6-3 victory in the first game. He gave Cumberland a 4-1 lead with a two-run shot in the fourth after Morgantown had cut the lead to 2-1 in the top half of the fourth.

Cumberland (4-0) will play at Frostburg on Tuesday at 5:30.
