Halmos family, others vital to New Embassy’s success

To the Editor:
Cumberland Times-News

New Embassy Theatre’s board of directors annual membership gathering on Sunday, June 28 honored Iris and Peter Halmos for their enthusiasm and tenacity in helping produce the one-act festivals in April these last six years.

Attendance and spirits were both agreeable to the kindly task of thanking the Halmos family for its generous foundation support, not only for the Embassy’s purposeful endeavor to present quality entertainment, but to enhance life and opportunity for county residents and tourists to our beautiful Appalachia region.

Members Bernice and Arthur Friedland sent regards and a message to Iris and Peter Halmos.

Part of the message read, “It is great that you are honoring Iris and Dr. Peter Halmos, good friends to the theatre and wonderful members of our community. They have always taken a deep interest in all aspects of the Cumberland area and support many worthwhile projects. They do this with dedication and caring. So we join you by congratulating them as your Members of the Year. You have made a perfect choice.”

Actress Nicole Halmos gave a brief tribute to her parents, which was heartfelt and much appreciated by the members, who give time, talent, technical ability and fiscal participation in efforts to keep the Embassy Theatre project alive.

Our thanks also goes to a growing patron support with opportunities for Embassy activities in July, ranging from yoga on Mondays with Marta Fiscus, to a Rodgers and Hart composer tribute on Fridays and Sundays, with intermittent children’s fare in a treatment of Mother Goose Rhymes on Saturday afternoons.

August events include a summer arts workshop in musical theatre technique for ages 9-16 years, along with a reprise of original skit comedy by Embassy Theatre ambassador actors for two shows on Friday, August 28.

The board hopes people who have never brought their families to be part of live show activity in the 1931 restored Art Deco vintage movie house at 49 Baltimore St. will be curious enough to partake of one of the diverse family events and low ticket prices.
