Church mission seeking donations for Thanksgiving
To the Editor:
Cumberland Times-News
Another year and we are upon the holiday season again. It has been an amazing, historic, challenging, an uncertain year in our country throughout all of our communities.
One thing is certain though, many families are struggling. They are struggling to keep a roof over their heads, struggling to keep the lights on, and struggling to put food on the table.
Last year, through your generous contributions, we were blessed to provide a Thanksgiving meal for 42 families and the patrons of the Homeless Mission.
That is almost twice the amount we provided on our initial drive two years ago. This was only possible through your generosity.
Through the collaboration of the Metropolitan A.M.E. church and the Community Unity in Action (CUIA) group, we are setting the bar even higher this year. Our goal is to provide a Thanksgiving meal for 100 families.
There is a genuine need out there and we would love to fill it. Through your contributions and the contributions of local stores and vendors, we can achieve this goal.
Your contribution is tax deductible and is much needed and appreciated. While performing your holiday shopping, please pick up an additional turkey for a family less fortunate than yourself.
Contact Larry Banks (301) 268-4684 or Jerome Younger (240) 682-0195 to arrange for your contribution to be picked up (due to our work schedules, please call after 3 p.m.).
If you are unable to provide a turkey, a financial contribution would be greatly appreciated and we will pick the turkey up for you.
Meals will be distributed from Metropolitan A.M.E Church, 309 Frederick. St., Cumberland, on Saturday, Nov. 21, beginning at 10 a.m. until all donations have been distributed.
