Femi Field warranted media coverage

To the Editor:
Cumberland Times-News

I was very disappointed in the lack of coverage for the renaming of the local field to Ted T. Femi Field. First of all, the field renamed was the baseball field at Lions Field, not the entire area. Secondly, a BIG thank you to LaVale Athletic Association for all of the time and effort they put forth to have the field renamed.

The plaque reads, "In 1953, Ted formed the LaVale Little League with two teams, Orange and Maroons. His love of the sport and passion for teaching the game is why... He started it all."

Ted volunteered to coach for many, many years regardless of having a child on the team and history also shows that Ted took a LaVale team within one game of going to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Those who have grown up in LaVale, remember the LaVale Sunoco Ted owned where "the guys" met in the mornings to talk. I know that Ted did the Mason work on at least 13 churches throughout our area, but I have been told that you can look down almost every street and see a house that he worked on as well.

It seems these days that the "good" stories are overshadowed by the bad. I hated to see this happen to a man who gave so much to our area.
