All indications point to the presence of a water thief

Johnathan Gibralter recently wrote a letter to the editor entitled “It takes a good thief to steal 221 tons of water” (March 28 Times-News).

I am writing today to support Gibralter’s suspicions of the Frostburg water thief.

My wife and I own property within the Frostburg city limits. Imagine our surprise when our water bill for this property went from 26,000 gallons used the previous quarter to 206,000 used this quarter, to the tune of $3,600!

We were sure we had a major leak. So, I headed to the property fully expecting to find a swimming pool in the basement. Nope, bone dry. I then checked to toilets to see if they were running. Nope, not running and no leaks anywhere. My wife then called the city to report the obvious error on our bill. To our astonishment they reported the bill was correct!

We were at a total loss. Where in the world could 859 tons of water be hiding? You wouldn’t think it would be too difficult to locate a leak the size of very large swimming pool. But, evidently I was wrong.

We were assured by an employee of the Frostburg water company that the water meters are foolproof  and not a single one has ever failed in his 30 years on the job.

But just to be safe our was replaced. All the while, we were dumbfounded as to where all this water could be hiding.

Then we read Mr. Gibralter’s letter to the editor a few weeks later and it all made perfect sense. The only logical explanation is that there is indeed, a water thief in Frostburg.

I’d like to pose a theoretical scenario to Cal Thomas.

If a medical specialist said, “Cal, you’ve got a serious physical problem. Do nothing and you’ll die soon. Follow my prescription, which involves certain life-style changes, and there’s a good probability you’ll live, even if your life may be a bit more constrained than now.”
